Ingredients
Cocktail:
4ozbourbon whiskey
2ozcinnamon and clove simple syrupsee recipe below
8dashedorange bitters
2tspfreshly squeezed orange juice
Bruleed Orange Garnish:
2orange slices
1tspbrown sugar
Cinnamon and Clove Simple Syrup:
1cupwater
1cuplight brown sugar
3cinnamon sticksor 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
2tbspwhole clovesor equivalent in ground cloves
Instructions
Make the Cinnamon and Clove Simple Syrup:
Combine water, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, and cloves in a small saucepan. If using ground spices, place them in a spice packet or coffee filter secured with twine.
Simmer over low heat for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Strain out the spices and let the syrup cool completely. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Prepare the Bruleed Orange Garnish:
Slice two orange rounds and place them on a baking sheet. Sprinkle each with ½ tsp brown sugar.
Use a kitchen torch to melt and caramelize the sugar, or place them under the oven broiler until caramelized. Let cool slightly before adding to the cocktail.
Assemble the Cocktails:
In two Cocktail glasses, add 1 oz cinnamon and clove simple syrup, 2 oz bourbon, 1 tsp orange juice, and 4 dashes of orange bitters to each glass. Stir well.
Add 1–2 large ice cubes to each glass. Top with a bruleed orange slice and, optionally, a cinnamon stick. Serve and enjoy!
